We’re Hiring
*Note: Beyond reading some of our most recent articles and watching our recent videos on the YouTube channel, something that will be helpful for you to get a sense of what we do and how we do it is to watch our video: How It’s Made- A TodayIFoundOut Story. We’ve improved how we do certain things since that video, but the basic bones are still mostly correct and you’ll get a good sense of the process from that video.
Current Openings:
- Researchers/Authors: Do you LOVE learning new things? Would you make sweet, sloppy love to an Encyclopedia Britannica if you weren’t worried about paper cuts? Are you great at research and at digging out interesting details while discarding that which is not interesting? Do you have borderline (or genuine) OCD when it comes to getting everything perfectly accurate and die a little bit inside anytime you’re wrong, even on a minor detail? Does it drive you INSANE when someone says “according to studies” and doesn’t list those studies explicitly so you can go read them, and clearly also hasn’t read the papers themselves? Can you simplify a complex topic and dozens of pages of notes down to something anyone can understand in your writing? Are you open to constructive feedback on your research and writing? Are you a nice person and easy going? Then you just might be the droids we’re looking for.
- Job Description: Super in depth research on a variety of topics followed by condensing all that research into a well written and entertaining article on the topic and interesting related details. If you have some expertise in some field, your assigned topics will likely heavily take advantage of that. Otherwise, or in addition, topics covered could be anything. You are expected to make yourself an expert in that narrow topic regardless- not just regurgitate what you’ve read on XYZ site in your own words. If you’re doing that, you will not last here. 🙂 Each piece must be unique.
- Pay: This depends on your location and demonstrated skillset. If you’re local to Washington state, likely this will be an hourly job or salaried. If outside of Washington, likely a contract, per article type job for various logistical/tax reasons. (Different regions have different rules and making sure one is following them all globally for each person is a bit of a bureaucratic nightmare otherwise.)
- *note: slight preference will be given to those local to the Bellingham, Washington area (TIFO headquarters). But at the end of the day, we’re looking for the best people. Just FYI if you’re in the Bellingham area, you’ll have a very slight leg up.
- *note 2: slight preference will also be given to someone who is natively fluent or equivalently fluent in Latin American Spanish. But, again, we’re looking for the best people, so this is not a requirement either.
- Submitting Application: Submit your resume to [email protected] with “APPLICATION- AUTHOR” in the subject line. If you’ve written things like we do here before, feel free to submit your best examples of that too. Or if you haven’t, perhaps research and write on something interesting and then submit.
- Optional: Submit 5 interesting topics you would like to cover that we haven’t covered yet or you think you could do better if we have. In the latter case, explain why.
- Video Editor / Graphics Person: Are you well familiar with the Adobe suite of applications, particularly Photoshop and Premiere? Do you have a good sense of humor? Would you like to lend your creativity and particular brand of silliness to making videos online? Are you a nice person and easy going? Then read on!
- Job Description: Cutting raw footage, editing video in Premiere, making/adding custom and stock images/animations and a bit of humor, making thumbnails, etc. etc. Note: you will in all likelihood be asked to work on a variety of channels, not just TodayIFoundOut. You also may be asked to assist our current video editor in a variety of ways at times.

If you’ve got great examples of your previous video editing work, do submit the best of those as well or feel free to show off what you can do with some videos from the TodayIFoundOut channel.
- Optional: Tell or show us how you think you could make TIFO videos better without massively increasing production time.
