Re: Bonus fact 2: There is a “dark side of the Moon”, but it’s not always the same side.
More seriously, “dark” does not mean “unlit”, but “unknown”, in the same way as Victorians referred to Africa as “the dark continent”. While it’s fair to say that lunar orbiters mean that the far side of the Moon is as well mapped as the near side, the term has at least historical value. You seem to be complaining that it doesn’t literally mean comply with the most common modern meaning of the word “dark” and therefore is worthless as a phrase.
