My grandfather told me a story his grandfather told him of a similar event in the Civil War. My great-great-grandfather, Christian George, fought in the Union Army from a Pennsylvania Unit. One Christmas they called a ceasefire and the two armies met on the battlefield and threw a Christmas party of sorts. Next day they went back to shooting at each other. Seems bizarre to me that you would want to kill someone you had such made friends with.
@Jeanette: Interesting stuff. 🙂
